I’m harold stewart, and I’m Running for City of Gonzales mayor. They say it takes a village to get any job worth doing done, and I’ve got an incredible village behind me.

I’m THE Father to Five Amazing Children. Each has Done well with their respective lives, and I couldn’t be more proud of who they are and the bonds we have. Like any parent, i tried my best to pass on tools to handle the world they’d face, and when i look at who they are, what they’ve accomplished, and all the decisions they’ve made in their lives, i know that THEY’VE taken those life lessons with them. i see them now passing those lessons on To their children, my grandchildren, and I’m impressed by them all DAILY. They are wonderful people and wonderful parents.

I’m also the fiance to a woman like no other. Amy is my rock, my confidant, my best friend, and she possesses a true determination and deep love for this community. I am a blessed man to have her by my side, and i am in awe of her kindness and her humanity.

I’ve been a business owner in Gonzales for just over 40 years. I’m a barber by trade, and let me tell you - that’s been a great way to listen to the needs and wants of so many across our community. For some reason, barbers and Hairdressers are great people to confide in, and I’ve taken everything i’ve heard over the years and realized the importance. COMMUNITIES are only as great as the people within them, so ensuring all community members are listened to - and heard - is something i learned early on as being highly important. That’s why 15 years ago I decided to do something about helping people in this community get things done, and i took a seat on the City of GONZALES planning and zoning commission. while there, i thoroughly BELIEVE i did some good, and the knowledge gained allowed me to run for city council. I’ve proudly been a City of Gonzales Councilman for 10 years now.  

When FORMER mayor barney arceneaux announced that he’d be leaving to take on a larger position allowing him to help a membership of 305 louisiana municipalities, i was sad, but also in complete support of his decision. for 16 years, barney WORKED daily for the people of this city, and i learned how to be a leader from him. I watched him take time for people, check on people, AND care about people. I watched and learned how to always put people first in the political arena. I ALSO gained a deep insight INTO how important it is to put actions behind your words. So, the decision to RUN FOR mayor was an easy one FOR me. Gonzales is a great place to live, to work, to raise a family, you name it. I realized who better to keep it on the successful PATH it’s seen FOR decades than me. i don’t say that to be cocky. i say that because i’ve been a part of that trajectory, and the experience I’ve gained FOR the last 15 years under the leadership of Barney Arceneaux guides me.

On this website, you’ll be able to view my platform. I’m honored to have had so much community input as a large part of its creation. People ask me often what my end game is, or what my goal is, in becoming city of gonzales mayor. That’s easy. I want us all to reap the benefits of what a successful community looks like. We’re working as one now, and there’s no way i’m going to let that stop. I do this for you, and I do this for us.
